Hi, I’m Akhmas, and I’ve been living in Kuala Lumpur for more than ten years.
This site exists because most Kuala Lumpur travel content is written by people who flew in for three days, hit the same five attractions, and flew out. There is nothing wrong with that, but it means a lot of what you read online about KL is thin, generic, and quietly out of date. I wanted to make the guide I wish visitors had: written by someone who actually lives here, eats here, takes the trains here, and knows which recommendations hold up and which ones are tourist traps.
Why you can trust what you read here
A decade in KL means I am not guessing. I know which neighbourhoods are worth basing yourself in and which look good in photos but are a hassle on the ground. I know that the afternoon storms pass in an hour, which hawker stalls are worth the queue, and how to get from the airport without overpaying. When I tell you something is overrated, it is because I have been there. When I say a place is special, the same.
I also travel widely around Malaysia, so the guidance here goes beyond the capital when it should, day trips, the wider country, and the practical side of living here as an expat.
By background I’m a software engineer, and I spent years working for some of the large organisations here in Malaysia before stepping out to pursue my own projects, this site among them. Over that time I’ve travelled extensively across the country, well beyond KL, which is why the guides here stretch to day trips and the wider Malaysia when they should.
How I write these guides
- From experience first. The recommendations start from what I actually know, not from rewriting other people’s articles.
- Honest about trade-offs. Every area, hotel, and attraction has downsides. I tell you them, so you can decide for yourself.
- Careful with facts. Prices and hours change, so I flag figures that may move and point you to official sources for anything that really matters, like visas and transport schedules.
- No fake claims. If I have not stayed somewhere or eaten somewhere myself, I will not pretend I have.
